Lantern slide in black and white. Central image shows several men dressed as Indians throwing crates off of a ship. Buildings and a dock are at back right. A rowboat with more men dressed as Indians is also at left. Several figures are gathered on the dock. A label printed in black is applied to one end of the slide and reads, "T.H. McAllister, Manuf'g Optician, 49 Nassau Street, N.Y." Below this is black ink handwriting that reads, "Boston Tea Party." A label printed in red applied to the other end of the slide reads, "A.D. Handy, Stereopticons & Supplies, Boston."

This illustration of the Boston Tea Party is taken from a glass magic lantern slide. When lit and projected from a device called a magic lantern, this image on the glass slide would be shown at many times its actual size. In the late 1800s, when magic lantern shows were popular, slide makers worked with artists to develop series of slides to tell entertaining and educational stories from literature and history.
