Ancient Order of United Workmen West Virginia Lapel Pin. OBVERSE: Flower-shaped pin of gold-colored metal with white, blue, and red enamel inlay. Design features red enamel-bordered shield at center with eighteen (18) tiny stars along it and a blue-inlaid banner running diagonally through its center with the text, "A.O.U.W." in gold; behind shield is gold anchor with radiating gold rays around it and the text "W" to its PR and "VA" to its PL; behind anchor is white flower (possibly rhododendron blossom) infilled with white enamel and edged with blue enamel. REVERSE: Round, plain gold pin backing bears text stamped in a circle, "WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO / NEWARK, N.J.". Thick, short metal rod connects front to backing; stabilizing prong juts from base of connector towards pin top.
