Charles I, King of England, signs a commission authorizing Sir Thomas Aston, a royalist, to raise a regiment. This document also refers to the opposition in Parliament. Aston commanded the royalist forces at Middlewich in 1643 where he was defeated and captured, he died of wounds while attempting to escape from prison at Stafford.
