USA: Massachusetts, Boston
Wood, silver
Overall: 14-3/4"h x 4-1/8"w x 1-1/4"d

GL2004.1869

Ladle comprising silver bowl stamped "Revere" [Kane mark C] on inside, and brown wooden turned handle with lower silver shaft which is soldered to bowl. Ball at end of handle.

Initiated as a Freemason in 1760, Paul Revere used his lodge connections to build his business. The first transaction recorded in his 1761 daybook is for a Masonic medal purchased by a member of the Lodge of St. Andrew. Revere also made several sets of Masonic officers' jewels. In addition to crafting silver goods for Masonic lodges and fellow Freemasons, Revere engraved and sold Masonic summonses and certificates. This ladle is one of two that were given to Saint Paul Lodge in Groton, Massachusetts, by member John Walton many years after Revere manufactured them.
