Following in the footsteps of other ceramics manufacturers and printers, John Aynsley decorated earthenware plates, mugs and teapots with attractive transfer prints. The plate on display here was also ornamented with hand-painted flowers and colored details that enhanced the central printed design. The colorful highlights made the plate more attractive to buyers--or at least more attract to buyers willing to pay for the vibrant decoration.
