Black rectangular pressed horn snuffbox with hinged lid; lid decorated with raised design of symbols pertaining to the higher Scottish Rite Masonic degrees; design includes a Rose Croix beneath open compasses on a three-step dias. At left, a Nineva (square) and trowel, and a Broached Thurnal (axe embedded in cubical stone); at right, a beehive, and sword surrounded by nine flames (Knights Elect of Nine). In a horizontal panel above, an arched bridge and skull-and-crossbones (Knight of the East of Sword), and a serpent eating fruit in the Garden of Eden (Lodge of Adoption, i.e. feminine Masonry).
