Masonic Windsor style settee has old brown paint; painted Masonic square and compasses in gold and black on back splat; spindle legs.
In the early decades of the 1800s, wooden furniture fashioned to look like bamboo enjoyed great popularity. Some decades after it was made, this once-stylish settee was likely moved from a home to a Masonic lodge. To update the settee a painter added grain-painted decoration and two gold-and-black square-and-compasses symbols.
