Masonic Mark medal cover glass; has central design of mallet and rule in silver and copper color metal, surrounded by initials "HTWSSTKS" in gilt. Back of silver case is engraved with initials "JC."
In the Masonic Mark Master degree, a Mason chooses a symbol to represent himself - often something that relates to his profession or a symbol from Freemasonry. Some men had these emblems made into badges that could be worn. The glass and silver case on this medal, the kind used to house watches, has protected the fragile pieces inside for about 200 years.
