This engraved mark medal, in the shape of a keystone topped with a square, bears the owner’s name, Abel Hutchins, along the name of his mark lodge, St. John’s, in Groton, Massachusetts. On the other side of the medal, is the mark that Hutchins selected when he took the Mark Degree, the crossed keys of a lodge or chapter secretary along with the motto of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, “Follow Reason.” For further information, see Newell, Aimee, et.al., "Curiosities of the Craft: Treasures from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Collection", 2013, p. 94-95.
