Daniel Decius Tompkins (1774-1825) served as the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction from 1813 to 1825. He became a Mason at Hiram Lodge No. 72 in Mt. Pleasant, New York, in 1800. He served as Grand Secretary (1802-1805) and as Grand Master (1820-1821) at the Grand Lodge of New York. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1804. From 1807 to 1817 he was Governor of New York and, from 1817 to 1825, he filled the office of Vice President of the United States.
