Masonic Mug; creamy background with transfer print on front; print shows figure surrounded by pair of columns with globes, sunburst, beehive, square and compass, other Masonic symbols; painted, stylized floral decorations in red, blue, green, light purple/ pink lustre banding around rim, base and handle; applied handle has stylized leaf attachment.


Brightly decorated ceramic objects such as this, that also bear prints of different Masonic scenes, were likely used by individuals in their homes. In the early 1800s, some gift-givers selected ornamented ceramic pitchers as appropriate presentations for special events, such as a wedding.
