Pair of quilt fragments with top of red and white wholecloth print of fruit basket and leaves. Muslin backing and medium batting. Knife-edge binding on one edge of each piece. Quilted in a scallop pattern at six stitches per inch. Tacked together with a note handwritten in ink, "The corners cut out of Mother's / quilt she had when married / May 16th 1820."

A descendant saved these fragments of a quilt made for Hannah Russell upon her marriage to Stephen William Little of Newburyport in the 1820s. Although the quilt had outlived fashion and its usefulness, family members valued it as a tangible reminder of two families coming together.
