Master Mason certificate issued by Mariner Lodge, No. 385, (New York, N.Y.) to William Hyler and dated November 11, 1825. Imprint at bottom of certificate provides the names of the artist (John Reubens Smith), the engraver (Peter Maverick), and the publisher (John Reubens Smith).

Seafaring men established this lodge in 1825. The lodge used a certificate printed in Spanish, English and French so that its brethren would be able to help prove their Masonic affiliation in different parts of the world.
