Masonic Master Mason Apron
Maker not marked
paint on silk; cotton
overall: 18-3/4"h x 16-3/4"w
Gift of Laurel Telfer on behalf of the Nina L. Littlefield Family

White Masonic Master Mason apron with rounded body and rounded false flap. Applied trim of pleated light blue ribbon on edge of apron; the same pleated ribbon forms the outline of the false flap. Bound along the top edge with light blue ribbon, which originally extended to form ties, replacement light blue ribbon has been stitched to the corners to form ties. The apron is decorated with painted Masonic symbols. There is an all-seeing eye on the flap. The body shows an arrangement of colored symbols with a pair of blue columns in the center. Above are a sun, moon with seven stars and a red G. Between the columns are a square and compasses, sword and heart, trowel, sword and scroll, an altar with Bible, and three candlestands. The columns stand on checkered pavement and three steps. Below the central scene is a shovel and mallet, coffin and tree. Additional symbols are to the sides of the columns. Jacob's ladder and a circle within two lines on the left; Euclid's 47th problem and an hourglass with wings and a scythe on the right. The apron is backed with cream cotton.
