To help people know the time at night, many clocks chimed every hour, half hour, or 15 minutes. Inventive companies, however, came up with other ways to tell time in the dark. Designers crafted this clock to fit over a gas flame. Lit from behind, the dark numbers and hands on the clock’s opaque glass face could be seen after the sun went down.
