Innovative clockmaker Silas Burnham Terry (1807-1876) followed in his father, Eli Terry’s (1772-1852), footsteps. Interested in creating small clock movements, Silas experimented with different kinds of springs to drive his clocks, like the horizontally mounted steel coil seen here.
