Pocket Memo Calendar; One side engraved with "June 13, 1854" and presumably an Image of Niagra Falls; other side engraved with Masonic symbols and "O.A. Pennoyer" "Penn Yan, NY"

In 1854 Oliver Arthur Pennoyer married Margaret Morris, a relative of his partner in the jewelry business. Although we do not know where the couple spent their honeymoon, a trip to famed Niagara Falls, depicted on this calendar along with the wedding date, is an intriguing possibility. In 1855 a contemporary described Pennoyer as an “affable and gentlemanly man.” This elegant accessory fits that description. It also served as a reminder of the year he embarked on many new ventures.
