Embossed leatherette sixth-plate ambrotype photograph with gold foil liner, studio portrait of an unidentified bearded young man standing alongside a chair, wearing a Masonic Knights Templar fringed sash and triangular apron decorated with skull and cross-bones. The lid of the case is lined with embossed maroon velvet. A coin silver Maltese cross, suspended on the recto side, is engraved with the Latin motto "Mens Noster Ager Est. 1835."
