Sepia-tone cabinet card photograph of man in Independent Order of Odd Fellows regalia collar; studio posed full-length portrait of bearded man, standing with bowler hat in left hand, wearing an Independent Order of Odd Fellows regalia collar; star embroidered on each lapel; lapels are joined by a three-link chain; beneath image printed "John S. From its formal beginnings in Baltimore in 1819, Odd Fellowship grew as Americans established new towns across the country. The man pictured here likely numbered as one of the thousands drawn by the discovery of silver to Virginia City, Nevada, in the 1870s and 1880s.
