Sepia-toned Masonic carte-de-visite photograph. Full length portrait of man with beard and mustache standing and wearing a black coat and pants, black shoes, dark shirt, and Masonic apron and collar. Apron is white, with a dark stripe around the border; it has a seven-pointed star in the lower right corner. Collar is dark, with a lighter border; it has five seven-pointed stars. Man is also wearing a plumb jewel. Man is holding a gavel in his right hand. On the left side of the image, there is a fluted column partially obscured by a decorated curtain. Handwritten on the back twice, first in pencil, and below in ink is "C.H. Stowers." Also in pencil, to the right of the two signatures is "40.-." Printed in black below is "From / A.W. Peters' / Photograph Gallery / Beloit, Wisconsin." Below that is the remnant of an orange postage stamp, with a "2" and the words "U.S. INTER. RE" and "TWO" both visible. The stamp fragment also has part of a portrait, most likely of George Washington. Some remaining glue is present where the rest of the stamp is missing.
