Sepia-toned, hand-tinted Masonic Knights Templar carte-de-visite photograph. Three-quarter length portrait of a man with mustache and beard wearing a black frock coat, white shirt, black tie, and Knights Templar gauntlets, sash or baldric, and belt. Gauntlets are off white, with hand-tinted violet crosses on each. Sash or baldric is white, with a black stripe near the border. There is a circular badge on the sash with a cross inside; part of the badge is hand-tinted in violet. The belt is violet, with a white rectangular buckle; there is a violet cross on the buckle. A black sheath with a sword inside hands from the belt on the man's left side. In his right hand, the man is holding a sword, which is pointed down at the ground. Immediately to his right (on the left side of the photograph), there is an ornately carved table with a two books on top; the man's hat is on top of the books. The hat is black, with a white band and a violet cross. Printed in blue ink below the photograph is "C.C. Giers. Nashville." There is a blue single line border around the edge of the carte-de-visite on the front. Handwritten in pencil on the back is "P. L. Dashield." Printed in blue on the back is "C. C. Giers' / National / Portrait Gallery, / 43 & 45 Union St., / Nashville, / Tenn. / Negative No. / Duplicates can be had at any time." Handwritten in pencil immediately to the right of the words "Negative No." is the numeral "13763."
