Three-quarter length portrait of a bearded man standing and wearing a gray buttoned overcoat, black pants, and fraternal gauntlets, sash or baldric, belt, and chapeau-de-bras. On the left side of his overcoat, he is wearing an unidentified jewel or medal. The gauntlets are white, with a cross on each. The sash is white, with a dark border; it has a cross, and a badge featuring a star with a cross inside. The belt is black, with a buckle inscribed with the words "Norton / Commandery." The chapeau-de-bras is black, with white ostrich feathers and a cross emblem on the side. The man is carrying a sword in his belt. Printed in red below the photograph is "C.D. Fredricks & Co.
