Sepia-toned Masonic carte-de-visite photograph. Three quarter length portrait of a bearded man wearing gray jacket, vest, and pants, white shirt, and Masonic sash and apron. On his left lapel is a triangular jewel indicative of Royal Arch Masonry. Sash is black, with a lighter border, and an acacia design; in the center, there is a crossed shovel, pick, and baton-like object. Apron is black, with a lighter-colored fringe; in the main section, there are emblems of the Ark of the Covenant, a sword, a triangle, and a circular object. On the flap, there is a triangle with rays emanating from it. Man is resting his left arm on a padded chair back, which has a tassel hanging from it. Printed in black on the back, diagonally, is "G.N. Burley, / Taylorville, / Illinois." Printed in black on the back, horizontally, near the bottom edge, is "Additional Pictures from this Neg- / ative at any time."
