Sepia-toned Masonic Knights Templar carte-de-visite photograph. Three-quarter length portrait of a bearded man standing and wearing a gray frock coat, black pants, white shirt, black bow tie, and Knights Templar sash or baldric, apron, belt, and gauntlets. His sash is black, with a white border, a cockade or rosette on the shoulder, a Maltese cross, and a nine-pointed star. His apron is also black, with a white border. It is triangular in shape, with crossed swords on the flap, and a skull and crossbones on the body. His belt has a rectangular buckle. His gauntlets are both white; there is a cross visible on the gauntlet on his right hand. The man's right hand is by his side, and he is holding up a chapeau-de-bras in his left hand. The chapeau-de-bras is black, with a rosette or cockade on the side, and black feathers on top. Next to the man on his left, there is a table with four books on top. There is a gilt, double-lined border around the edge of the front side of the CDV. Handwritten on the back in black ink is "Grandfather P[illeg]'s brother / Elisha." Printed in black on the back is "R.J. Chute, / Photographer, 13 Tremont Row, Boston." There is a circle and a square inscribed in pencil on the back, in the bottom right corner.
