Photograph on paper mounted on board
Gift in memory of Jacques Noel Jacobsen
Black and white Masonic carte-de-visite photograph of a painting depicting several Masonic objects and symbols. At the top of the image is an archway, with a keystone and two columns. The left column is inscribed with the text "He / set up the / left pillar / of the / Temple / and called it / Boaz." The right column is inscribed with the text "He / set up the / left pillar / of the / Temple / and called it / Jachin." There is also some illegible text along the arch itself. A square and compasses jewel is suspended form the keystone. On each side of this jewel is another jewel; on the right is a keystone jewel, and on the left is a triangular Royal Arch jewel. Right below the three jewels, at the foot of the arch, is a level inscribed with the text "Upright / Light. Life. Love." To the left of the arch is a triangle with three T-shaped crosses. Below the arch and the level is a bible, opened to I Kings VI. Directly in front of the Bible, there is a compasses, a square, and a ladder. The ladder is inscribed with the text "Charity / to man / hope / of immortality / faith / in God." Both the Bible and the aforementioned Masonic tools are standing on a Masonic apron. The apron is fringed along the flap and the edges, with three crowns, an archway, and the ends of a wreath showing. There is no text on the back of this carte-de-visite.
