Sepia-toned, hand-colored Masonic Knights Templar carte-de-visite photograph. Full length profile portrait of a man standing and wearing a dark frock coat and vest; black pants and shoes; white shirt, and Knights Templar gauntlets, sash or baldric, belt, and chapeau-de-bras. Gauntlets are white, with a red cross visible on the gauntlet on the man's left hand. Belt is black, with a rectangular buckle with a red cross. The man is also carrying a sword in his belt. Sash is white, with black edges; there is a red cross in the middle. The chapeau-de-bras is black, with a red cross on the side; there are feathers on the top of the hat. The man is resting his left hand on a table or pedestal with a dark, floral-patterned tablecloth or drapery. Printed in black on the back is "C. H. Starbird, / Photographer, New Granite Block, Nearly opp. Post Office, / Augusta, ME. / Makes all the styles of Photographs, Ambro- / types, Melainotypes, &c., in the best manner. / All kinds of pictures copied, enlarged, and / finished in India ink or colors, equal to any done / elsewhere....All work done at this establishment / warranted satisfactory." Handwritten in pencil on the back, near the top left corner, is a numeral "4."
