Sepia-toned, hand-colored Masonic Knights Templar carte-de-visite photograph. Three-quarter length portrait of a man with mustache and beard wearing a black frock coat and pants; white shirt, black bow tie, and Knights Templar belt and sash or baldric. His belt is pinkish red, with a white elliptical buckle. A Maltese cross emblem or jewel hangs from his belt beneath his left arm. There is a pinkish red cross on the belt buckle. His sash is white, with a black border and a nine-pointed star. There is a pinkish red cross in the center of the star. He is holding a sword under his left arm, and a chapeau-de-bras in his right hand. The chapeau-de-bras is black, with black and white feathers on top. Directly behind the chapeau-de-bras, and to the man's right is an unidentified metal piece of furniture; possibly a decorative pedestal. Printed in purplish red ink, directly below the photograph, is "C.C. Giers, Nashville, Tenn." Printed in purplish red ink on the back is "C.C. Giers, / Artist, / 43 & 45 Union Street, / Nashville, Tenn. / Negative No. / Duplicates can be had at any time." Handwritten in pencil on the back is the signature "W.R. Shaver"; as well as the numeral "19482" directly to the right of the printed words "Negative No."
