This Civil War envelope depicts Britain (John Bull) riding atop of two horses, Union and Secession, as Britain precariously balances a bale of cotton on his shoulders. Secession, the Confederate horse, wears the seven-star national flag of the Confederacy, which was used from March 4, 1861 until May 21, 1861. Forms part of the William Caleb Loring illustrated envelope collection.
