GL2004.5419
Photograph album with green cover. Stamped in gold on the cover is "Photographs." The pages are gray heathered paper. Most pages have one sepia-tone photo pasted in the center with the typewritten name of the sitter on a white piece of paper pasted beneath the photo. Some pages have a photo on each side; there are some blank pages. Some pages have a white piece of paper attached with handwritten notes. There is a white label pasted to the inside back cover. It is printed in green and reads, "Ward's Album / for / Unmounted Photographs / ... / This Book Is / No. 601."
This Civil War-era photo album includes portraits of members of the 43rd Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Many of these men were also members of McClellan Lodge, an Army lodge authorized by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts so that soldiers would be able to maintain their Masonic activities during their war service. For further information, see Newell, Aimee, et.al., "Curiosities of the Craft: Treasures from the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Collection", 2013, p. 200-201.
