USA; Maryland, Baltimore

Masonic Master Mason apron; white silk with blue trim and fringe; on false flap: gold hand-painted all-seeing eye at top; on body: hourglass, beehive, square, plumb level, anchor, ark with emblem and checkered flooring in center; reverse label: "A.Sisco. / Odd Fellows and Masonic Regalia...Baltimore." Handwritten: "Josephus Roland / Mt. Olivet Lodge / No 113 / Parkersburg, VA" and "W J Rowland / 7/24/1906 / Grafton #15 / Grafton WVA."

Newly widowed Ann Sisco (1814-1888) took over her husband’s fancy trimming business in 1846. She advertised that she would continue to manufacture all kinds of regalia “suitable and appropriate to the different orders.” It is likely that Sisco had assisted her husband with making regalia so had exposure to the business and clientele. With five young children to support, she also needed to earn a living. “The Badge of a Freemason: Masonic Aprons from the Collection,” March 2016-March 2017
