Sepia-toned, hand-tinted Masonic carte-de-visite photograph. Full length portrait of a man with a beard standing and wearing a black coat and pants, black vest, black shoes, white shirt, and a Masonic apron. The apron is white, with a blue border around the edges and the flap. It three rosettes and two tassels in blue. The man also has a gold-tinted Masonic jewel hanging from his vest. He is holding onto a chair with his right hand; the chair has an ornately carved wood back and a cushioned seat. On the right side of the photograph, to the man's left, is a gray curtain with a tasseled tie-back. The photograph has a gilt-double-lined border running around it. Handwritten in pencil on the back is "An officer in Masonic / Blue Lodge Note blue / Tinted border & / fringe on apron / c 1859-1863."
