Middleton:-- Dear Sir: I have examined with much interest your portraits of General and Mrs. Washington. They appear to me to be accurate and spirited copies of the original paintings by Stuart with which I am well acquainted. The execution is entirely successful. Wishing you an ample reward for your perseverence and ingenuity, -I remain, dear sir, Respectfully yours, Edward Everett."
