Masonic York Rite Royal Arch Chapter Altar with Cushion. a: Brown wooden triangular Masonic York Rite Royal Arch Chapter altar. Top and base pieces are wider than mid-section; top piece features decorative geometric carved trim all around while base piece has plain sides. Each side of mid-section is decorated with a rectangular panel at center which has a raised, red-painted rectangle within, with a white painted keystone applied to it. At each of the three corners is a gold-painted, turned decorative post. Open at top for cushion topper (b); inside of altar is hollow. b: Cushion topper consists of two conjoined flat pieces, both with a triangular outline. The larger top piece is upholstered with brown velvet with a floral-like pattern and is 1-1/4" thick overall; it has brown (rusted) metal nail heads visible on the underside, affixing fabric to the wood underneath, and repeating circular indentations where, presumably, upholstery tacks used to be. The smaller piece, attached to the underside of the top piece with silver metal nails, is 3/4" thick and of varnished brown wood cut in a triangular shape, with its corners cut off so that they are flat. Fits into a triangular opening in top of altar base (a).
