The man is wearing a dark frock coat and pants, and Knights Templar gauntlets, sash or baldric, and belt. His gauntlets are white, with a cross on each cuff. His sash is white, with a black border, and a nine-pointed star with a cross inside. His belt is black, with four horizontal white strip; the buckle is rectangular, with a Maltese cross. A sword hangs from his belt by his left side. His left hand is in his lap, while his right hand rests on the fringed arm of the chair. The man's chapeau-de-bras is in the background to his right, on top of an unidentified piece of furniture. There is a gilt, double-lined border around the edge of the photograph.
