Currier and Ives published several versions of this scene of George and Martha Washington with their grandchildren. They modeled the image an earlier print created and published by Edward Savage. Currier and Ives’ different versions showed the family in slightly different dress, colors, positions, and with varying backgrounds. This one omits Washington’s enslaved valet, William Lee. Savage had included Lee in his print.
