Black-and-white stereocard photograph mounted on an orange card, showing four children gathered around an easel; two boys and two girls. One of the boys is sitting in front of the easel, facing the girls whose portrait he is painting. The boy is painting the girl's portrait with a brush in his right hand, and is holding a palette in his left hand. He is wearing a powdered wig and a ruffled military coat. The girl being painted is seated. She is wearing a striped floral dress with a pearl necklace, and a dark bustle, white socks or stockings, and shoes with raised heels. She also has a flower in her hair. Behind the painter, there is another boy and another girl. The girl is wearing a dress with a lace collar, and the boy is wearing a military uniform. There is a framed painting or print on the wall behind these children. Printed in white along the bottom edge of the left image is "3176. The Young Artist." Printed in black on the front of the card is "Union View Co., Pub[loss] / Rochester, N.Y. / Group Series". The back of the card is pinkish-purple and blank; the back edges are faded. There is a loss in the upper left corner of this stereo card, which may be the result of an animal biting the card.
