Black and white carte-de-visite photograph of unidentified Freemason standing by chair; photograph has been hand colored, red for the tie and cheeks, blue for the collar and apron; wears a Masonic pin fixed to his shirt and a Junior Warden's jewel in the shape of a plumb suspended from the collar; the plumb is also depicted on the subject's apron; reverse reads "Mrs. Moore / No. 421 Canal St. / N.Y."


The subject of this portrait wears a jewel in the shape of a plumb. The same emblem adorns the center of his apron. In Freemasonry, the plumb represents uprightness and the lodge office of Junior Warden. The Junior Warden is typically responsible for refreshments at the lodge.
