Elias Ingraham (1805–1885) trained as a cabinetmaker before turning his talents to designing fashionable clock cases. Researchers credit him with creating more clock case designs than anyone else in his era. He received over ten patents for his designs. With a knack for marketing, Ingraham gave his clocks evocative names such as the Grecian (this model) or the Venetian.
