Black and white Masonic Knights Templar carte-de-visite photograph on yellow card. Three-quarter length portrait of a man with mustache and beard standing and wearing a black frock coat, black pants, white collared shirt, and Knights Templar gauntlets, belt, and sash or baldric. His gauntlets are white, with a cross on each cuff. The cuff of his right gauntlet also has three buttons visible. His sash is white, with a star that is obscured by his right hand. His belt is black, with a round buckle, and a sword with a chain hanging from it. The man is holding his chapeau-de-bras over his left shoulder with his right hand. The chapeau-de-bras is black, with black and white feathers. The man is posing against a dark background, which has been cut away by the photographer to leave an arched top. Handwritten in pencil on the back is "Clarence Barton / EX." Printed in black on the back is "O.B. Evans' Old Gallery / Removed from Buffalo, N.Y., to / No. 5 Franklin St., Titusville, Pa. / Oil and Water-colored Ivorytypes; Plain Photo- / graphs; also, finished in India Ink by the best / French Artists." Below this text, inside a circular, medal-like motif is: "Awarded / to / O.B. Evans / Buffalo / 1st Premium for / Photographs / in Oils / Water Colors and / India Ink / 1855." Printed vertically in black to the left of the circle is "Fifteen First Premiums awarded us in the / last thirty years. This cut is from a Gold / Medal of the N.Y. Agricultural Society." Printed vertically in black to the right of the circle is "Also a Medal and Diploma from the World's / Fair in London, in 1851." Printed in black, beneath the circle, is "Old Pictures of all descriptions enlarged to any / desired size, and finished in every style of the Art. / Views of buildings, plain and stereoscopic, taken / at all times. / Any number of additional copies will be furnished / from all of our negatives when desired. / O.B.
