Gift of Armen Amerigian
Engraving of George Washington's bust in spandrel; Washington (1732-1799) wears white ruffled shirt with black coat; oval frame inlaid with square and compasses with "G", level, heart, trowel and other working tools, Bible on bottom; sawtooth design inlaid on border.
Many Masons have long admired George Washington (1732-1799), the first President of the United States and a Mason. His portrait is found in lodges across the country. A skilled craftsman created this frame for a print of Washington, likely for display in a lodge. Along with Masonic symbols, the maker cleverly used different colors of wood to create the illusion of a three-dimensional pattern around the frame.
