Clear pressed glass commemorative plate with scalloped edge. Sides of plate have a floral swag design (known as the "Garfield Drape" or the "Canadian Drape" pattern). At bottom center is a bust portrait of a man with a beard. Around the image are two rows of text and a row of stars, "We Mourn Our Nation's Loss / Shot July 2, 1881 Died Sep 19, 1881 Born Nov 19, 1831." Commemorates the death of president James A. Garfield (1831-1881).


James A. Garfield (1831-1881) was elected President of the US in 1880. During the Civil War, he served as a Union general. He was shot on July 2, 1881 and died from his wounds on September 19, 1881.
