Masonic York Rite Knights Templar sword and scabbard. A: Sword has a gilt helmet-head pommel hilt; one-piece etched ivory grip; pierced cross-guard, langet with enameled Knights Templar medallion; inscribed "York Commandery / New York / 55"; the grip is monogramed "D.B.P."; the blade is straight, double-edged, with a diamond section, etched with Masonic strapwork and gold filled background; obverse inscribed "Dana B. Pratt"; reverse has "IHS" monogram and maker's name "The C.G. Braxmar Co. / 10 Maiden Lane / New York." B: Scabbard is gilt metal with red enameled mounts and passion cross formed of 12 pieces of red glass; etched with DBP monogram.


This sword belonged to Freemason Dana Baldwin Pratt who was "one of the most widely known Masons in New York State," according to his obituary. He grew up in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. He was active in many Masonic bodies including the Knights Templar and the Shrine.
