Masonic Scottish Rite double-sided banner with separated valance. a: Double-sided banner. One side is cream with a purple border and gold bullion fringe on sides and bottom. Scalloped bottom edge. A gold bullion and sequin leafy design is applied to the purple border. The central cream section is painted. In the center is a black double-headed eagle (gold heads) with a gold triangle at its chest with a black "33." The eagle stands on a silver sword with a gold handle. The sword is draped with a blue belt reading "Deus Meumque Jus." Under one wing are 17 gold stars, under the other wing are 16 gold stars. Above the head of the eagle is a gold delta or triangle surrounded by glory rays. Below this is part of a crown appliqued in red (the other part of the crown is missing). Painted lettering in gold reads "Ancient Accepted / Scottish Rite / Nor. Mas. Jur. / U.S.A. / 1813." The other side of the banner is blue with painted decoration. There is a scrolling leafy vine border in gold at sides and bottom. In the center is a 33º jewel - red Teutonic cross overlaid with gold columns, a nine-point star that is gold with black intersecting triangles (each triangle has a letter spelling out "Sapientia"), blue circle in the middle with lettering "Ordo Ab Chao / Deus Meumque Jus," and a blue shield with gold double-headed eagle and symbols above. Behind the center of the jewel is a gold sword crossed with a gold baton, one end of the baton is a hand. The symbol is surrounded by a gold ouroboros (snake eating its tail) and an outer border of gold glory rays. Gold lettering above and below reads "Grand East, / Boston, / Mass. / X." b: Valance for the purple and cream side of the banner, which has detached. The valance is purple with gold bullion fringe and three gold tassels. It has two green chenille leaf sprigs and bullion lettering, "Supreme Council 33º." The valance is lined with pale (peach-pink) silk.
