The photograph shows an unidentified man in Masonic Knights Templar regalia standing next to a side chair; he holds the top rail of the chair with one hand. In his other hand he holds a sword with the point resting on the ground next to his feet. He has a beard and mustache. The subject wears a dark hat; the plume has been hand-colored in red. He wears a dark coat, vest, pants and gloves with a white shirt and dark cravat. His cuffs have shield shapes on them. He wears a sash that has been hand-colored blue and it has a light-colored triangle pin or badge. He also wears a sword belt that has been hand-colored in red. Printed in black on the back is "L.
