He rests one hand on the arm of the chair. There is a patterned carpet or floorcloth. The subject has his hair combed back and wears a mustache. He wears a dark coat, pants and vest with white shirt. He also wears a fraternal collar that has been hand-colored in purple. He wears a badge or rosette on one lapel. Printed in black on the back is an illustration of a man with one arm raised; in his other hand he holds a flag reading "Excelsior." Printed text above and below reads, "C.G.
