Waxed Paper Composition with Masonic Symbols. White waxed paper flowers in the shape of Masonic square and compasses; mounted in gold framed wooden shadow box on black velvet; label on back reads "Made by Mrs. J. F. Whitehill/ So. Ryegate, Vt./ June 1890".
According to a note on back of this work, it was made by Mrs. J. F. Whitehill. She crafted it out of wax and paper in June 1890. The white color of the flowers stands out against the rich background of black velvet; it was likely created as a mourning piece. As the composition features the Masonic symbols of a square, compasses and the letter G, the work was like intended to memorialize an as yet unidentified member of the fraternity.
