Black crazy quilt with multicolored embroidery and painted motifs. Twenty-five 13" square blocks made from black silk and velvet fabrics. Heavily embroidered between the blocks in colored thread including orange, red, green, pink, white and blue. Embroidered motifs include Morton's salt girl, anchor, flowers, butterfly, spider web, animals ("Fido," "Fox"), horseshoe ("Good Luck"), pansies, lily of the valley, heart, figures, owls, birds, and a star. Painted motifs include a landscape with a house and flowers. The quilt shows a variety of stitches including chenille work, satin stich, and French knots. The yellow silk backing incorporates two pieces of fabric. The quilt has a knife-edge binding and a sawtooth edging on three sides of black prairie points embroidered along the sides in a variety of colors. One block includes embroidered initials "JE." Another block includes the embroidered date "1892." The quilt is foundation-pieced by hand. It has no batting. Hangers are attached along the top edge.
