Glazed earthenware plate with blue printed floral designs around rim with center image of Boston Tea Party; on reverse is "The Boston Tea Party / Dec 16th 1773" with Wedgwood maker's mark and "copyright J M D & S / 1899" and Jones, McDuffee & Stratton mark, noting they are "sole importers".

A Boston-based importer, Jones, McDuffee and Stratton commissioned English ceramics manufacturers to make plates and other dishes decorated with historic scenes. Artists working for the importers created the artwork that Wedgwood and other companies used to decorate items. This plate bears an illustration of the Boston Tea Party. From 1899 to 1904 Jones, McDuffee and Stratton directed retailers to sell plates like this one for 50¢ each.
