Miss Rose Lipp
USA: Massachusetts, Boston

Loaned by the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts

Masonic souvenir miniature apron; white leather with white cotton ties; printed blue border, with square, compasses, and "G" on flap, while below is printed "29th Triennial Conclave / KNIGHTS TEMPLAR / AT / SAN FRANCISO, CAL., 1904". On reverse is printed advertisement for maker Miss Rose Lipp: "MISS ROSE LIPP, / 136 Boylston Street, / Boston, Massachusetts / MANUFACTURER OF / MASONIC SUPPLIES / Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council, and Scottish / Rite Paraphernalia, complete. / Knights Templar Uniforms a Specialty. / Correspondence Solicited and Promptly Answered."

Regalia maker Rose Lipp manufactured this souvenir for a Knights Templar meeting. It doubles as an advertisement for her work. On the back she noted her address, the Masonic supplies she produced and that “Knights Templar Uniforms [are] a Specialty.” Lipp straddled the gender boundaries of the regalia industry. She worked in the traditionally female realm of sewing and clothing construction and, though not a Freemason, was acknowledged “as an authority on correctness of design” of Masonic regalia.
