a=Typescript letter with signature of Frederic Speed; Letter concerns business of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi; Frederic Speed was Grand Secretary, Grand Lodge of Mississippi, at the time; b= Included with this letter is another manuscript letter from H. H. Hall to Chairman of the Committee of Masonic Jurisprudence of Mississippi, dated June 6, 1905, which concerns Hall's desire to receive a Masonic certificate from Waterford Lodge #141 for being a former member. Frederic Speed was a Union officer who was captain of a steamboat named the "Sultana" that exploded north of Memphis killing 1,500 Union soldiers on board, who had just been released from Confederate prisoner of war camps. Library owns a copy of a pamphlet entitled "Lodge of Sorrow", 1870, which includes an address given by Frederic Speed. This pamplet is also signed "Fraternal regards, Frederic Speed" (20. M678 1870).
